In a major bid to modernize one of the Adriatic’s most critical maritime gateways, the Setramar Group and Circle Group have officially launched a comprehensive digital transformation project at the Port of Ravenna.

Announced in April 2026, the collaboration aims to eliminate the historical “analog” bottlenecks that plague busy terminals by replacing legacy manual workflows with a fully integrated, high-speed digital ecosystem.

The project focuses on a deep-dive analysis and reengineering of Setramar’s current Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) and Transport Management Systems (TMS). By streamlining the flow of information between the quay and the inland supply chain, the initiative targets three key areas:

    • Eliminating Paperwork: Central to the project is the introduction of electronic transport documents, including e-CMR and e-DDT. This shift to digital documentation ensures that cargo can be released and tracked in real-time, removing hours of manual data entry and document verification.

    • Smart Gate Management: Leveraging Circle Group’s expertise in automation, the project will optimize gate operations to reduce truck turnaround times, effectively ending vehicle congestion at terminal entrances.

    • Enhanced Interoperability: The new system will allow for seamless data exchange between port authorities, shippers, and carriers, creating a “single source of truth” for every shipment.

    A Strategic Partnership for Growth

Setramar, a leader in the dry bulk and logistics sector with over 800,000 m² of operational area in Ravenna, views this as a necessary step to maintain its competitive edge. Circle Group will act as both the technology provider and strategic consultant, deploying tools from its Milos® software suite to facilitate the transition.

“The goal is to simplify workflows while increasing safety and operational transparency,” stated Carlo Merli of Setramar. “By digitizing our logistics backbone, we are making the Port of Ravenna a more responsive and efficient hub for the entire European market.”

    Sustainability Through Efficiency

Beyond speed, the project carries a strong sustainability mandate. By optimizing truck routes and reducing idle times at the port, the digital project is expected to significantly lower the carbon footprint of Setramar’s “last mile” logistics operations.
