Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, attended NAUGHTICA 2026 as the Chief Guest, where he addressed a diverse gathering of maritime cadets, training institutes, and industry stakeholders.
In his keynote address, he highlighted India’s rising prominence in the global maritime sector and stressed the importance of building a skilled, future-ready seafaring workforce. He noted that such efforts are essential to achieving the country’s long-term goals under Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
Emphasising the need for progressive reforms, Jagannathan spoke about ongoing initiatives in regulatory simplification, digital transformation, and the adoption of safety-first practices. He also underscored the importance of inclusive growth, particularly encouraging greater participation of women in the maritime industry.
Reaffirming the Directorate General of Shipping’s commitment, he highlighted measures to strengthen maritime training, enhance seafarer welfare, ensure transparency in crewing practices, and promote a culture of safety and professionalism across the sector.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the NAUGHTICA 2026 publication by the Director General of Shipping, marking a significant step toward fostering knowledge sharing and deeper engagement within the maritime community.
