The State Trading (General) Corporation said that a consignment of Samba Rice will be imported to the country within the next two weeks.

Its Chairman Asiri Walidundara said that the importation is based on the recent cabinet decision to import 50,000 MT of Samba Rice to the country.

He added that calling for tenders for the importation of Samba Rice concluded on Tuesday (5), and the stock of rice will be procured from India.

The Consumer Affairs Authority said that it will continue with its raids to nab traders who sell rice above the government imposed control price.

The CAA said that legal action was instituted against over 1,000 traders who sold rice for higher prices.
