Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Mormugao Port on Thursday to inspect the upcoming International Cruise Terminal. During his visit, he toured the construction site of the new terminal building and experienced the port’s facilities with a yacht ride. As part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, the Minister planted a sapling within the port premises .
Sonowal stated, “With the new Cruise Terminal at Mormugao Port, we are setting a benchmark for excellence, aiming to provide facilities that will help us meet our target of 1.5 million cruise tourists by 2030.” He also briefed the media about the 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting, scheduled to take place in Goa tomorrow.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is advancing ambitious projects worth Rs 24,000 crore in Goa under the Sagarmala initiative, aimed at transforming India’s maritime sector. The upcoming MSDC meeting will bring together Chief Ministers, Senior Ministers from Coastal States, and Administrators of Union Territories to assess progress on these initiatives, including the Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. Discussions will also focus on improved road and rail connectivity to ports, strategic plans to boost shipbuilding and ship repair industries, and enhancing environmental sustainability at Goa Port.
