The United States Navy submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS-40) arrived at Chennai Port today, marking its second visit to India in the past three years. The visit underscores the growing defense cooperation and maritime partnership between the United States and India.
Sailors aboard the Guam-based vessel received a warm welcome from Indian Navy officials, representatives of the U.S. Consulate in Chennai, and local dignitaries. The ship’s arrival is part of a broader effort to enhance interoperability and strengthen strategic ties in the Indo-Pacific region.
The USS Frank Cable, which provides repair and logistical support to submarines and surface ships, will engage in a range of professional exchanges, joint community outreach programs, and cultural activities during its stay in Chennai.
“This port visit reflects the strong relationship between our two navies and our shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” said Capt. Don Roe, Commanding Officer of the Frank Cable. “We look forward to building stronger ties with our Indian counterparts and the local community.”
The vessel’s visit follows the growing tempo of high-level naval cooperation between India and the United States, including joint exercises such as the Malabar series and regular port calls.
Officials stated that the visit is expected to contribute to enhanced understanding and trust between the two maritime forces, further cementing the partnership in addressing shared challenges such as maritime security, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
The USS Frank Cable is scheduled to remain in Chennai for several days before continuing its regional deployment.
