V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority commemorated the 155th Birth Anniversary of V.O. Chidambaranar on September 5 at V.O.C. Square, paying tribute to the legendary freedom fighter, patriot and pioneer of India’s maritime movement.
The celebrations commenced with garlanding of the statue and floral tributes by Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority. The programme featured a guest lecture by Dr. N. Sathammai Priya, Assistant Professor, Cauvery College, Trichy, followed by addresses by senior Port officials highlighting V.O. Chidambaranar’s courage, patriotism and enduring contribution to India’s maritime history.
As part of the programme, a bulletin highlighting the Port’s initiatives on TB awareness under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was also released. Prizes were subsequently distributed to the winners of the Elocution and Essay Writing Competitions organised in connection with the celebrations.
The event concluded with a cultural performance by students of Harbour Higher Secondary School, followed by the National Anthem, bringing the commemorative programme to a fitting close.
