Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, located in Vadodara and traditionally focused on logistics in the railway, aviation, and highway sectors, is set to broaden its scope by entering the marine and port sectors.

“Until now, Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has concentrated on logistics related to railways, aviation, and highways. We have now decided to extend this focus to include the marine and port sectors as well,” said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the university’s convocation ceremony. Vaishnaw also serves as the Chancellor of the university.

In addition to this expansion, a new Centre of Excellence in bridge and tunnel engineering is being established at the university. This initiative aims to equip students with specialized expertise in this critical area of infrastructure development.

Highlighting the importance of infrastructure in India’s development, Vaishnaw emphasized, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the nation has resolved to become a developed country. Infrastructure and logistics will play a key role in achieving this goal. The establishment of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya reflects a visionary approach toward that objective.”

“Here, students are getting a good opportunity to gain practical knowledge that can be used in real life. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has also been honoured by the World Economic Forum in this short journey…,” he added.

Being an industry-driven and innovation-led university, it has already established several collaborations with leading institutions and industries worldwide. The University has so far partnered with various top-notch companies, including Airbus and L&T, to provide students with real-life knowledge. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) Vadodara was established through an Act of Parliament in 2022 to create the best-in-class manpower and talent for the entire transportation and logistics sector.

Addressing the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India is witnessing unprecedented transformation in its infrastructure and logistics sectors, which is laying a strong foundation for the country’s economic development.

Further describing the logistics sector as a game changer for 21st century India, Raksha Mantri said that it has immense opportunities for the youth and will play a key role in building a developed India and called upon the youth to take responsibility in building a developed India.

Explaining the importance of logistics, he said that the stronger the logistics services, the stronger our borders remain. When we deliver defence products manufactured in one part of the country or food supplies for soldiers to the border on time, the morale of the border guards becomes strong.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives, Singh said that initiatives like creating multimodal transport hubs and implementing mission mode schemes have significantly reduced logistics costs and encouraged data-based decision-making.

A total of 194 students received degrees in various subjects at the convocation. One student from each course was awarded the Academic Excellence Award, while Outstanding Project and Best Student Awards were also given.
