The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) held its first Shipbuilding, Indigenisation and IT Conference in Karnataka, on November 27, 2025. The event brought together senior officials, shipyards, manufacturers and technical experts, and included the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ICG, the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association and the Defence Innovation & Atal Incubation Centre.

According to the official press release, the partnership aims to support indigenisation and defence innovation through the Defence Innovation Hub in Coimbatore.

Director General Paramesh Sivamani said that self-reliance in shipbuilding depended on indigenous design, digital systems and reliable supply chains. He acknowledged the role of Indian shipyards and equipment makers in improving the ICG’s readiness.

He noted that the ICG’s 200th indigenously built vessel — the fourth Pollution Control Ship — had begun sea trials, calling it a sign of the technical capability of ICG personnel.

Sivamani also outlined progress under Project Digital Coast Guard, which aims to build a secure and scalable digital framework for all ICG units. He said any expansion in digital systems must be supported by strong cybersecurity measures.

The conference enabled discussions on future requirements and aligned stakeholder perspectives on indigenisation and technology adoption. The ICG said the platform would help shape its digital transition and future force development.
