Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday stressed the need for swift implementation of the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project and stronger multimodal corridors to connect the North Eastern region with the rest of India and neighbouring countries. Addressing the third meeting of the High-Level Task Force for Infrastructure and Connectivity Development in the Northeast, Saha said the region should be developed as a gateway to the Bay of Bengal and ASEAN through integrated logistics hubs, freight rail, and energy and digital infrastructure.

The meeting, virtually chaired by Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, discussed coordinated measures to address gaps in road, rail, air, waterways, power, gas and digital connectivity. Saha highlighted priority areas such as regional infrastructure grids, power, oil and gas, tourism and border trade.

Scindia praised the Tripura government for its integrated planning and foresight, expressing confidence that improved connectivity would unlock the Northeast’s growth potential and strengthen links with South East Asia.
