Pioneering sustainable industrial logistics, INOX Air Products (INOXAP), India’s leading industrial, electronic and specialty gases company, has unveiled the country’s first LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker, marking a historic milestone for the Indian industrial gases sector.
The development has been enabled by a June 2025 amendment to the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016, notified by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce, allowing the use of LNG as a fuel for cryogenic tankers.
The newly introduced tanker is powered by a 450-litre Kryopower LNG fuel tank manufactured by INOX India Ltd, India’s largest cryogenic equipment manufacturer. According to the company, the LNG-fuelled configuration delivers a reduction of nearly 25% in CO₂ emissions and a 95% cut in particulate matter, while also offering quieter and more fuel-efficient operations compared with conventional diesel-powered tankers.
Commenting on the achievement, Siddharth Jain, Director, INOX Group, said that the rollout of the LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker represents a transformative step towards cleaner logistics in India’s industrial gases ecosystem. He acknowledged the role of DPIIT for introducing a progressive regulatory framework and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) for extending technical support and statutory approvals.
Jain added that the initiative reflects the convergence of forward-looking policy, indigenous engineering capability and sustainability-driven innovation, setting a new benchmark for green logistics solutions while strengthening supply chains for critical industries.
The project also underscores the “Make in India” and “Made-in-Gujarat” ethos. Both the cryogenic tanker and the LNG fuel tank have been designed and manufactured at INOXCVA facilities in Gujarat. The industrial gases transported by the tanker will be produced by INOXAP’s plants in Gujarat and supplied largely within the state, creating a highly localised and resilient logistics network.
With this launch, INOXAP becomes the first company in India’s industrial gas sector to deploy LNG-fuelled cryogenic transport, signalling a significant shift towards lower-emission, cost-effective and sustainable industrial logistics.
