Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. (VPPL), in collaboration with The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI), has reinforced its commitment to maritime skill development by confirming the selection of 11 students for the GP Rating Pre-Sea Training Course.

The confirmation letters were presented to the selected candidates in the presence of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways; Shri Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW); and other senior officials and dignitaries.

The six-month training programme will be conducted by the SCI–Maritime Training Institute (SCI-MTI) and is fully funded by VPPL. The company is bearing the entire course fee of ₹2.5 lakh per student, ensuring access to high-quality maritime training at no financial cost to the beneficiaries.

The GP Rating Pre-Sea Training Course is designed to equip candidates with essential seamanship skills, technical knowledge, safety training, and hands-on industry exposure, enabling them to meet global maritime standards and build sustainable careers at sea.

Upon successful completion of the course and qualification in the Exit Examination conducted by the Board of Examination for Seafarers Trust (BEST), participants will be awarded the requisite certification, making them eligible for employment in the maritime sector.

This initiative reflects VPPL and SCI’s shared vision of nurturing skilled maritime professionals and strengthening India’s seafaring workforce, in alignment with the government’s broader efforts to promote maritime education, employment, and inclusive growth.
