The Directorate General of Shipping has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UN Global Compact Network India and Ocean Centres India to strengthen collaboration towards a safe and sustainable ocean economy in the country.

The agreement was formalised at the Lloyd’s Register office in Mumbai, in the presence of board members from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.

The MoU was signed by Pradeep Sudhakar, Chief Ship Surveyor at DG Shipping, and Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network India.

Senior officials present at the ceremony included Pravin Roy, who serves as the nodal officer for UN Ocean Centres, and Devarshi Datta.

The partnership aims to drive joint initiatives across key areas such as maritime safety, sustainable ocean economy practices, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building. It will also focus on promoting safety-led sustainability across India’s maritime and ocean industries.

Under the collaboration, both organisations will co-organise workshops, undertake research programmes, and promote best practices aligned with India’s broader vision of building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable blue economy.

The MoU marks a significant step in aligning industry efforts with global sustainability frameworks, while reinforcing India’s commitment to responsible ocean governance and maritime safety.
