The Gandhidham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in collaboration with the Indian Salt Manufacturers Association and Nutrition International, organized a seminar in Gandhidham to promote awareness on the use of Double Fortified Salt (DFS), reinforcing its commitment to public welfare alongside trade and industrial growth.

The event saw strong participation from salt manufacturers and producers across the region. Addressing the gathering, Chamber President Teja Kangad highlighted Gujarat’s dominant role in India’s salt production, contributing nearly 75% of the national output, with Kutch emerging as a key hub. He emphasized the need for a nationwide campaign to encourage the adoption of DFS to improve public health outcomes.

ISMA President Bharat Raval stressed that Double Fortified Salt is not just a commercial product but a critical public health intervention, particularly in tackling iodine and iron deficiencies. He called for a large-scale awareness drive similar to the successful promotion of iodized salt, suggesting the use of social media platforms and government backing to expand outreach.

Ranjan Kumar Jha elaborated on the production, benefits, and regulatory framework of DFS, noting its effectiveness in addressing micronutrient deficiencies, especially among women and children. He added that the Public Distribution System (PDS) could play a key role in scaling its adoption.

Hon. Secretary Mahesh Tirthani stated that the Chamber, along with ISMA, Nutrition International, and other industry stakeholders, would jointly approach the government to push for a focused campaign promoting DFS usage.

The seminar concluded with strong industry backing for initiatives aimed at improving nutrition standards and strengthening public health through wider adoption of Double Fortified Salt.
