The Port of Klaipėda has officially renamed its port dues as an infrastructure charge, marking a change in its fee structure aimed at better reflecting the purpose of payments collected for the maintenance, development and modernization of port infrastructure.
According to the port authority, the revised terminology is intended to provide greater transparency and align the fee framework with evolving regulatory and industry practices. While the name of the charge has changed, the underlying objective remains to fund critical infrastructure that supports safe, efficient and sustainable port operations.
The infrastructure charge will continue to finance investments in port facilities, navigation channels, berths, cargo handling areas and other essential assets that enable the smooth movement of vessels and cargo. The updated framework is also expected to improve clarity for shipping lines, terminal operators and other port users regarding how the charges contribute to infrastructure development.
The move reflects Klaipėda Port’s broader strategy of enhancing operational efficiency, maintaining world-class maritime infrastructure and strengthening its competitiveness as a leading Baltic Sea gateway.
