Grimaldi Group’s Ro-Ro vessel Grande Shanghai has made a landmark call at Mumbai Port, berthing at OCT-2 operated by ICTPL, with one of the largest single-shipper consignments of electric vehicle (EV) trucks ever handled at the port.
The vessel arrived from China carrying 876 EV truck chassis, with a total cargo volume of approximately 53,800 CBM and a cargo weight of 8,727 metric tonnes, setting a new benchmark for a single shipment of its kind at Mumbai Port.
The vessel’s port call was handled by Oasis Shipping Private Limited, a Samsara Group company, acting as agents for Grimaldi Group through Grimaldi India Shipping Agency Pvt. Ltd.
Strengthening India’s Maritime Connectivity
Grimaldi Group has maintained regular monthly calls at Mumbai Port since 2025 as part of its Europe–Asia service. Despite recent disruptions to global shipping routes caused by geopolitical conflicts, the company has adapted its network by introducing westbound services connecting China with India, and onward to Africa, Europe, Australia, and South America.
Further strengthening its presence in the country, the company established Grimaldi India Shipping Agency in 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Indian shipping and logistics market.
Grimaldi has also expanded its China–Africa service to include Pan-India port coverage, with the latest Mumbai call reflecting its growing focus on serving Indian customers. The company plans to further enhance its footprint by increasing the frequency of vessel calls across its service network.
Supporting Sustainable Mobility
The arrival of Grande Shanghai, one of Grimaldi Group’s environmentally advanced Ro-Ro vessels, also highlights the company’s commitment to sustainable shipping. Transporting a large consignment of electric vehicle truck chassis aligns with the Government of India’s drive towards cleaner transportation and electric mobility.
The record shipment marks another milestone in Grimaldi Group’s expanding partnership with India, underscoring both the country’s growing role in global automotive logistics and the increasing importance of sustainable maritime transport.
