V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has performed a traditional Completion Pooja at its Green Methanol Bunkering Facility, marking the auspicious completion of the green maritime infrastructure project following its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2026, during a programme held in Chennai.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOCPA, along with senior port officials.

The facility has been developed in line with the Prime Minister’s vision for sustainable maritime development and represents a significant step towards promoting cleaner marine fuels and reducing the environmental footprint of maritime operations.

The Green Methanol Bunkering Facility is expected to strengthen VOC Port’s role in supporting the adoption of alternative marine fuels and advancing the transition towards greener shipping practices.

With the facility now inaugurated and the completion ceremony conducted, VOC Port has taken another important step towards establishing itself as a green-fuel hub and contributing to India’s broader efforts to build a sustainable and environmentally responsible maritime sector.
