The Montreal Port Authority and India’s Adani Group have renewed their collaboration agreement to strengthen trade links between India and Canada, improve logistics connectivity and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The agreement was announced on October 15, 2026, during Team Canada’s trade mission to India, which ran from October 12 to 17. The renewed partnership aims to deepen commercial cooperation and support stronger supply-chain connections between the two markets.

The collaboration builds on earlier cooperation between the Port of Montreal and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ), which began in 2018 and was renewed in 2021. The partnership has focused on business development, information sharing, port operations, technological innovation and the exchange of industry best practices.

Key areas of cooperation include improving logistics services, developing port infrastructure , enhancing container traceability, exploring green energy initiatives and optimising the movement of goods through marine and intermodal transport networks.

The Port of Montreal serves as an important gateway for Canadian trade, while Adani Ports operates Mundra Port, one of India’s major commercial ports. Stronger cooperation between the two port operators could help businesses improve cargo movement and explore additional trade opportunities.

India has become an important trading partner for the Port of Montreal, handling commodities such as lentils, forest products and steel exports from Canada, alongside imports including construction materials and rice from India.

The renewed agreement comes amid broader efforts by India and Canada to strengthen economic engagement and advance negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Improved port cooperation and logistics efficiency could complement these efforts by supporting more reliable trade flows and stronger commercial ties.
