Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has crossed the 70 million metric tonnes (MMT) cargo-handling mark in FY 2026–27, reaching the milestone significantly earlier than in the previous financial year. The port handled 70.03 MMT of cargo as of August 22, 2026, recording 23.02% year-on-year growth.
The latest achievement highlights the strong cargo growth momentum at one of India’s leading major ports. DPA reached the 70 MMT mark 32 days earlier than it did in the previous financial year, making it the fastest among India’s major ports to achieve the milestone during the current fiscal year.
The strong performance follows a series of record cargo-handling milestones for the port. Earlier in August, DPA had handled 62.86 MMT of cargo up to August 9, compared with 51.94 MMT during the corresponding period a year earlier, representing growth of more than 20%.
The increase reflects sustained activity across the port’s diverse cargo base and growing demand from its hinterland. Deendayal Port handles a broad mix of liquid bulk, dry bulk, breakbulk and containerised cargo, supporting industrial and trading centres across western, northern and central India.
DPA has attributed its continued growth to the coordinated efforts of port users and the wider maritime ecosystem, including shipping lines, exporters, importers, cargo owners, terminal operators, stevedores, transporters, customs authorities, employees and workers. Efficient marine and berth operations, cargo evacuation and improvements to logistics infrastructure have also supported the rise in throughput.
The latest milestone builds on DPA’s strong performance in FY 2025–26, when the port crossed the 100 MMT mark ahead of schedule and subsequently achieved further cargo-handling records. The port has continued to invest in infrastructure, storage and logistics facilities, digital systems and operational improvements to support higher volumes.
Located on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, Deendayal Port is strategically positioned to serve major industrial and consumption markets in the northern and western parts of India. Its connectivity with the hinterland makes it an important gateway for the country’s EXIM trade.
The early crossing of the 70 MMT threshold strengthens DPA’s position among India’s leading cargo-handling ports and demonstrates its ability to accommodate rising trade volumes while maintaining operational efficiency. With several months remaining in FY 2026–27, the latest performance also puts the port on course for another strong annual throughput result.
DPA is expected to continue focusing on capacity enhancement, improved cargo evacuation, digitalisation and customer-oriented port services as it seeks to sustain its growth trajectory and strengthen its role in India’s maritime trade.
