V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) has marked the return of sugar cargo after a gap of five years, with 12,000 metric tonnes of bagged sugar arriving from Thailand during FY 2026–27.
The renewed movement underscores VOC Port’s potential to emerge as an important gateway for sugar imports and strengthen its role in handling food and agro-based commodities destined for South India.
VOC Port is equipped with multipurpose berths and deep-draft handling capabilities, supported by around 25,000 sq. metres of transit shed space and paved warehouse facilities. The port also provides seven days of free storage, along with efficient road and rail connectivity, facilitating smooth cargo handling and onward movement to the hinterland.
The return of sugar imports after five years highlights the port’s growing potential to support international commodity trade and provide efficient logistics solutions for importers and businesses across South India.
The renewed sugar trade through VOC Port is expected to further strengthen the port’s connectivity with global markets while opening new opportunities for the region’s food and agro-based supply chains.
