A Capacity Building Programme on Port Operations and Aids to Navigation (AtoN) Development for member states of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) was held in Busan, Republic of Korea, bringing together maritime officials from across the Indian Ocean Region.
The programme provided participants with an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share best practices and explore innovative approaches to port modernization and maritime safety.
Through expert-led sessions, technical site visits and country-specific consultations, participants gained insights into smart port development, automation, digital transformation, Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) and advanced Aids to Navigation systems.
The programme also highlighted the transformation of Busan Port into one of the world’s leading transshipment hubs, offering valuable lessons on technology-driven port development, operational efficiency and maritime connectivity.
The initiative underscored the importance of international cooperation and knowledge sharing in strengthening port infrastructure, maritime safety and sustainable development across the Indian Ocean Region.
