The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (2025–2026) reviewed the Central Warehousing Corporation’s (CWC) foodgrain storage infrastructure and logistics operations in Ladakh during a meeting held in Leh.
The review was conducted under the theme “Storage of Foodgrains: Existing Infrastructure and Future Strategy with reference to Ladakh” and was convened by Shri Arun Singh, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), along with Members of Parliament from both Houses.
The Committee assessed CWC’s existing warehousing infrastructure, storage capacity and logistics support in Ladakh, particularly in view of the region’s high altitude, extreme climatic conditions, difficult terrain and limited accessibility.
Senior CWC officials, including Shri Samuel Praveen Kumar, Director (M&CP), the Executive Director (Commercial), Regional Manager, Chandigarh Region, Director (Storage), officials from the Department of Food and Public Distribution, and representatives from CWC’s Corporate and Regional Offices participated in the proceedings. Officials from the Lok Sabha Secretariat were also present.
The Committee appreciated CWC’s efforts to ensure scientific storage and uninterrupted warehousing and logistics support in Ladakh despite the challenging geographical and climatic conditions.
Discussions also focused on strengthening and expanding foodgrain storage capacity in the region, with emphasis on modern, resilient and strategically located warehousing infrastructure to support food security and efficient supply-chain operations.
CWC reiterated its commitment to supporting India’s food security objectives by providing reliable warehousing and logistics services across challenging geographies, including the high Himalayas.
