The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) has launched Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited (BIMCGL), marking a significant step towards strengthening Bihar’s industrial development. The launch was accompanied by the signing of 12 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering approximately 300 acres at the Integrated Manufacturing City (IMC) Gaya, with proposed investments worth ₹4,200 crore, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary formally launched the company at Bodh Gaya on Saturday. The event also featured the curtain raiser for Bihar Business Connect 2027, aimed at promoting investment opportunities in the state.

    1,670-acre manufacturing hub under development

BIMCGL is the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) responsible for implementing the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster at Gaya under the Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), which forms part of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).

Spread across 1,670 acres in the Dobhi block of Gaya district, the project received approval from the Union Government on August 28, 2024, at a total cost of ₹1,339 crore, including land acquisition expenses.

According to the Ministry, IMC Gaya is expected to attract investments of approximately ₹16,500 crore and create employment opportunities for around 1.10 lakh people, positioning the project as a major industrial and economic growth centre for Bihar.

Incorporated on January 6, 2025, BIMCGL is a joint venture between the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) and the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), with both entities holding equal equity stakes.

As the dedicated implementing agency, BIMCGL will coordinate project execution, infrastructure development, statutory clearances, utility connectivity and investor facilitation. The institutional framework is intended to accelerate decision-making, strengthen project monitoring and resolve implementation-related issues more efficiently.

    Infrastructure development gathers pace

Infrastructure development at IMC Gaya is progressing, with the Bihar government having taken possession of the entire project land.

The Centre released the first equity tranche of ₹132 crore in September 2025 against the transfer of 415 acres. Project management consultants and an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for trunk infrastructure works have also been appointed, and physical construction has commenced.

Construction of a dedicated helipad is at an advanced stage to improve accessibility for investors, business delegations and senior government officials.

The manufacturing city is planned with integrated industrial infrastructure, including road networks, water supply, sewerage and wastewater treatment facilities, power distribution, solid waste management and fire safety systems. These facilities are expected to provide a supportive operating environment for manufacturing enterprises of different sizes.

    Strategic connectivity and sectoral opportunities

IMC Gaya benefits from its proximity to National Highways 22 and 19, while Gaya Airport is located approximately 39 km from the project site. This connectivity is expected to facilitate the movement of goods and improve access for investors and industrial stakeholders.

The industrial cluster will focus on several sectors, including agro-based industries, textiles and readymade garments, furniture, handicrafts and handloom, and engineering and fabrication.

The planned infrastructure is designed to accommodate large manufacturing companies as well as micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The development is also expected to encourage local entrepreneurship, strengthen regional industrial value chains and generate employment across the district and neighbouring areas.

With the signing of the initial 12 MoUs and infrastructure works underway, IMC Gaya is emerging as a key component of Bihar’s industrial expansion strategy. Its development is expected to enhance the state’s manufacturing capacity, attract domestic investment and create new opportunities for industrial growth and employment under the national industrial corridor programme.
