India is set to initiate negotiations for a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) with Mexico during Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal’s two-day visit to Mexico City, marking a significant step towards strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations.
The negotiations will be formally launched with the signing of the Terms of Reference (ToR), which will establish the framework for discussions between the two countries.
During the visit, Agrawal is engaging with the Mexican Government and business community to explore new opportunities, address trade-related challenges and deepen bilateral cooperation in trade and investment.
In interactions with Indian and Mexican business leaders, the Commerce Secretary highlighted the importance of policy stability, predictability and a rules-based trading environment in facilitating stronger commercial partnerships.
He also underscored the significant untapped potential of the India–Mexico economic partnership, noting opportunities for both countries to expand trade, strengthen investment flows and develop more resilient supply chains.
The proposed PTA negotiations are expected to provide a platform for both sides to explore ways to improve market access and create fresh opportunities for businesses.
Closer economic engagement between India and Mexico could also open new avenues for growth and contribute to a more dynamic and prosperous global trading environment.
