India and Denmark have explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation, focusing on green shipping corridors, container manufacturing, and sustainable ship-recycling standards.

Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal met H.E. Martin Lidegaard, Denmark’s Minister of Business and Competitiveness, at his official residence in New Delhi to discuss ways to expand maritime cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions centred on advancing green shipping initiatives, promoting collaboration in container manufacturing and strengthening sustainable and environmentally responsible ship-recycling practices. Both sides explored opportunities to leverage their respective strengths, expertise and technological capabilities to support the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable maritime industry.

Green shipping corridors emerged as an important area of potential collaboration, reflecting the growing global emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from maritime transport and accelerating the adoption of cleaner fuels and energy-efficient technologies.

Container manufacturing was another key area of discussion, particularly in the context of strengthening supply-chain resilience, expanding manufacturing capabilities and supporting the development of a competitive maritime ecosystem. Cooperation in sustainable ship recycling was also highlighted as an important priority, with emphasis on responsible practices and globally accepted environmental and safety standards.

The engagement reflects the shared interest of India and Denmark in deepening maritime ties and promoting sustainable solutions across the shipping and logistics value chain.

The proposed areas of cooperation are expected to create opportunities for greater collaboration between the two countries while supporting India’s ambitions to build a modern, sustainable and globally competitive maritime sector.
