Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), a Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has delivered Amini, the fifth of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) being built by the shipyard for the Indian Navy.

The vessel was formally accepted by Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, CSO (Tech), HQENC, on Thursday, 5 November 2026.

With this delivery, Amini becomes the 119th warship built by GRSE and the 81st warship delivered to the Indian Navy, marking another significant milestone in the shipyard’s contribution to India’s naval capabilities.

The delivery further strengthens GRSE’s track record of executing complex naval shipbuilding projects. On 30 March 2026, the shipyard achieved a historic first by delivering three frontline naval platforms – Dunagiri, Sanshodhak and Agray – to the Indian Navy on the same day. The achievement demonstrated GRSE’s enhanced production capabilities, robust infrastructure and ability to execute multiple major projects simultaneously.

Designed for operations in coastal waters, Amini is equipped to undertake sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, as well as coordinated anti-submarine warfare operations in conjunction with aircraft. The vessel features an advanced Combat Management System, lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare rockets, enabling it to detect, track and engage underwater threats. These capabilities will strengthen the Indian Navy’s ability to protect India’s maritime interests and coastal waters.

Measuring approximately 77.6 metres in length, the warship is powered by marine diesel engines coupled with waterjets, providing enhanced agility and manoeuvrability. With a shallow draught of approximately 2.7 metres, Amini is particularly suited for littoral operations, allowing it to navigate shallow coastal waters while undertaking missions to detect and neutralise sub-surface threats.

The vessel also reflects India’s growing emphasis on indigenous defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The ASW-SWC programme incorporates approximately 88% indigenous content, while the vessels are equipped with a 30mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE, highlighting the shipyard’s role in developing and integrating indigenous defence technologies.

GRSE is currently building 13 frontline naval platforms, comprising one Project 17A Advanced Stealth Frigate, three ASW-SWCs, four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and five Next Generation Corvettes. In addition, the shipyard is constructing 36 other vessels, including 13 export platforms.

The delivery of Amini further reinforces GRSE’s position as a key contributor to India’s maritime security, indigenous defence manufacturing and expanding naval shipbuilding capabilities.
