In an ambitious move to boost regional connectivity, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to initiate vital train services linking Agartala with Kolkata via Dhaka and extending to Chittagong in Bangladesh. This request underscores the potential for enhanced economic ties and travel efficiency between India and its neighbor.

Chowdhury highlighted the need for immediate commencement of these services on the newly inaugurated Agartala-Akhaura railway track, which was virtually launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in November. However, operational services have yet to start, prompting Chowdhury’s appeal.

Moreover, Chowdhury pressed for the revival of the Belonia-Feni railway link among other proposed routes, conversion of single-line tracks to double-line ones, and additional daily passenger trains on the Agartala-Dharmanagar route. He also called for the launch of Agartala-Guwahati intercity train services to further enhance regional connectivity.
