Lomar Shipping has rebranded its product and chemical tanker business to CB Tankers, replacing the historic Carl Büttner name.
The move by the UK-based maritime subsidiary of New York-based Libra Group follows the $160m acquisition of the 168-year-old German brand in 2022.
The Carl Büttner group also includes the CB Maritime crewing agency in Rijeka, Croatia, which provides seafarers for its tanker fleet.
Commenting on the rebranding, Nicholas Georgiou, CEO of Lomar Shipping, said: “The Carl Büttner family name has been synonymous with technical management expertise and a strong maritime legacy. The ‘Carl Büttner’ name will return to the family who contributed so much to establish its presence in this specialist segment of shipping.”
Five generations of the Büttner family have owned and managed the Carl Büttner business since its establishment in 1856. Its four tankers, which earlier this year secured three-to-five-year employment, are today part of Lomar’s fleet.
CB Tankers is managed by joint managing directors Lars Bremer and Christian Mackenthun, the latter of whom succeeded his father Thorsten Mackenthun, the long-time managing director of the Carl Büttner Group of companies.
