India’s Apeejay Shipping has appointed Sumant Ahlawat as its new chief executive officer.

Ahlawat, with 30 years of maritime experience, including 14 years in shipmanagement, joins the Kolkata-based dry bulk player from the position of operations director at V.Ships Asia, where he was responsible for overseeing a diverse fleet of 45 vessels. His career also includes nearly five years at AET.

“As he steps into this pivotal role, we are confident that Sumant’s strategic vision will take Apeejay Shipping to new heights,” the company said in a social media post on LinkedIn.

Established in 1948, Apeejay describes itself as one of India’s largest privately owned shipping companies. The outfit currently counts eight bulkers in its fleet.
