    The government has decided to import 50,000 tons of non-basmati parboiled rice from India at a rate of Tk42.98 per kilogram.

    The total government expenditure for this purchase will amount to Tk2,149,009,860.

    Bangladesh will import the rice through international competitive bidding.

    The proposal from the Ministry of Food was approved on Tuesday at a meeting held at the conference room of the Cabinet Division in the Secretariat.

    The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salahuddin Ahmed.

    According to meeting sources, India’s Ms Nutriagro Overseas OPC Private Limited will supply the rice. The price per ton has been set at $351.49.
