Cathay Cargo delivered a strong performance in the first half of 2026, with cargo volumes benefiting from changing global trade patterns, resilient demand and continued growth in key Asia-Pacific markets.
The carrier has seen increased demand for shipments linked to the technology and electronics sectors, including semiconductor-related cargo and equipment supporting the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry. Stronger cargo flows from mainland China to the Americas and across Southeast Asia have also contributed to the performance.
Cathay Cargo is adapting its network and operations as geopolitical developments reshape international trade routes. Disruptions in the Middle East and higher fuel prices have affected operating conditions, while changing trade flows are creating new opportunities in markets such as India.
India has emerged as an increasingly important market for Cathay Cargo, supported by growth in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, perishables, automotive products, electronics and e-commerce. The carrier sees potential for further expansion as India’s export-oriented industries develop.
At the same time, Cathay Cargo is monitoring changes in international trade regulations and customs policies that could influence e-commerce and other cross-border shipments.
The strong first-half performance highlights the carrier’s ability to adjust its network and capacity to changing demand. Cathay Cargo expects evolving trade patterns to continue creating both opportunities and challenges for the global airfreight industry during the remainder of 2026.
