State-owned shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has successfully launched Sethusagar III (BY 167), the third double-ended Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry being built for the Kochi Municipal Corporation.

The vessel was launched on June 22 by Adv. Minimol V K, Mayor of Kochi, in the presence of councillors, CSL Chairman and Managing Director Jose VJ, company directors, distinguished guests, and employees.

Sethusagar III is expected to enhance connectivity between Fort Kochi and Vypeen, providing additional capacity and operational flexibility to the city’s existing Ro-Ro ferry network. The new vessel has been designed to carry trucks, cars, and passengers, helping ease congestion and improve the reliability of water-based transportation services.

The launch marks another milestone in CSL’s efforts to support sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions through indigenous shipbuilding. The addition of a third Ro-Ro ferry is also expected to facilitate maintenance schedules for the existing vessels while ensuring uninterrupted services for commuters.

With the launch of Sethusagar III, CSL reaffirmed its commitment to building vessels that strengthen communities, improve connectivity, and enhance the everyday lives of citizens through modern maritime infrastructure.
