Cochin Shipyard is all set to launch three different technologically advanced and complex vessels on Saturday constructed at an approximate cost of ₹2000 crore.
This included India’s first high-capacity 12,000 cubic metre trailing suction hopper dredger for the Dredging Corporation of India; the 6th Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts for the Indian Navy and Hybrid Electric Methanol Ready Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) to the Cyprus based Pelagic Wind Services, which is catering to the service of windmills in the high seas.

These three launches illustrate India’s expanding maritime capability from defence and port infrastructure to green energy and sustainability. The three launches represent three emerging industries – defence shipbuilding, dredging, and offshore renewables – all set to grow strategically in the coming years, according to officials.
The 12,000 cubic meter trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) – DCI Dredge Godavari – constructed at a cost of around ₹800 crore is India’s largest ever dredger and is amongst the biggest in Asia. The vessel has been built with technical and design support from Dutch dredger specialist IHC Holland B.V. The vessel represents a major technological leap in the construction of large size dredgers in India and has been built to meet the specific operational requirements of Indian ports in alignment with the objective of Maritime India Vision 2030.

The 78-metre long ASW Shallow Water Craft constructed at a cost of around ₹700 crore reflects India’s defence manufacturing self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat. Designed for anti-submarine operations, mine laying and low-intensity maritime operations, it integrates indigenously developed sonar systems and surveillance technologies.
Developed with globally reputed Kongsberg Maritime, Norway, the 93-metre CSOV marks a significant advancement in India’s capability to build complex, next generation offshore support vessel. It is designed for low emission operatins and supports the installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms, a sector that will play a pivotal role in the global transition to clean energy. The construction cost was approximately ₹500 crore.
