COSCO Shipping Ports Limited has officially completed its acquisition of significant equity stakes in two major terminals at Thailand’s Laem Chabang Port, marking a strategic expansion into Southeast Asia’s logistics and maritime sectors. The Hong Kong-listed subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Holdings secured a 12.5% stake in Thai Laemchabang Terminal Co., Ltd. (TLT) and a 30% stake in Hutchison Laemchabang Terminal Ltd. (HLT), with the total investment valued at approximately US$110 million.

Laem Chabang Port, situated about 60 nautical miles southeast of Bangkok, is Thailand’s largest deep-water port and serves as the nation’s primary international container hub, handling around 80% of the country’s container throughput. The combined facilities of TLT and HLT, including Berth A2 at TLT and Berths A3, C1–C2, and D1–D3 at HLT, are projected to offer a total annual capacity of approximately 6.7 million TEUs upon full completion.

This acquisition aligns with COSCO Shipping Ports’ strategy to enhance its global network and strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia. The company aims to leverage this expanded footprint to deepen business cooperation with global shipping companies and partners in the region, thereby enhancing its logistics offerings and port services.

The transaction, finalized on September 17, 2025, was advised by global law firm HFW, underscoring the strategic importance of this deal in COSCO’s regional expansion plans.

As COSCO Shipping Ports continues to enhance its global terminal network, this acquisition positions the company to better serve the growing trade demands in Southeast Asia, contributing to the development of Laem Chabang Port as a comprehensive logistics hub in line with Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor initiatives.
