Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of the Board of A.P. Møller-Maersk Group, to discuss expanding cooperation in maritime and logistics sectors.
The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Adm. Ossama Rabiee, and Maersk’s Middle East & North Africa Chief Representative Hany El Nady.
According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the discussions focused on the strategic partnership between Egypt — via the SCA — and Maersk.
President El-Sisi commended Mærsk’s role in exploring green fuel production and ship supply in Egypt, supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional hub for sustainable shipping and container trade.
He also acknowledged Mærsk’s contribution to the expansion of the Suez Canal Container Terminal at East Port Said.
Robert Maersk Uggla expressed appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in promoting regional stability, including mediation in the Gaza conflict and hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit.
He affirmed Maersk’s commitment to continued collaboration with the SCA, citing the Suez Canal’s strategic value as a key global trade route and praising its infrastructure and service enhancements.
Uggla also reiterated Mærsk’s support for Egypt’s Gaza reconstruction initiatives, with East Port Said positioned as a critical logistics node.
He highlighted the company’s confidence in Egypt’s investment environment, noting ongoing projects reflect long-term commitment.
The two sides explored further collaboration in maritime transport, logistics, container terminal development, training, and knowledge exchange.
President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s dedication to fostering an investor-friendly climate and encouraged increased Mærsk investment.
Adm. Rabiee welcomed deeper cooperation, stating the SCA aims to expand joint initiatives that bolster the national economy and Egypt’s status as a global logistics hub.
Recently, Maersk and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate decarbonisation across global supply chains and further strengthen CATL’s international logistics operations.
