Greta Shipping has joined Maersk’s East Africa feeder service, strengthening the regional container shipping network and supporting connectivity between major East African ports and Maersk’s wider global network.

The addition of Greta Shipping is expected to provide additional feeder capacity for cargo moving within the East African region. Feeder services play an important role in connecting smaller and regional ports with major hub ports, allowing shippers to access broader international services.

The cooperation will enable cargo to be transferred between regional ports and Maersk’s mainline network, providing exporters and importers with additional routing options for international shipments.

East Africa has seen growing demand for reliable container connectivity as trade volumes increase and regional supply chains develop. Improved feeder links can help reduce dependence on limited direct services and support more efficient movement of containers across the region.

For customers, the expanded service could offer greater flexibility in planning shipments and connecting cargo through key regional gateways. It may also improve access to global markets served by Maersk’s broader network.

Greta Shipping’s participation highlights the role of regional carriers in supporting major container shipping networks. Partnerships between feeder operators and global carriers allow shipping lines to extend their coverage while using specialised regional services for shorter routes.

The move is expected to strengthen maritime connectivity across East Africa and support the movement of containerised cargo between regional markets and international trade lanes.
