Gujarat Pipavav Port Limited (GPPL) on Wednesday announced that it has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NYK India Private Limited to significantly enhance Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) infrastructure at Pipavav Port in Gujarat. The upgraded facility is expected to handle up to 500,000 cars annually.

According to the company’s filing with the stock exchanges, the collaboration aims to develop specialised RoRo infrastructure focused on reducing dwell time and enabling seamless vessel–rail synchronisation. The initiative is designed to support the port’s growing rail volumes and strengthen sustainable, efficient logistics solutions.

GPPL, which primarily caters to automotive giants Maruti Suzuki and Honda Motors, anticipates RoRo volumes to grow by 20–25 percent in the current fiscal year. During the first half of FY26, the port handled 99,000 RoRo units—an impressive 39 percent increase over the 71,000 units recorded in the same period of FY25.

The partnership with NYK is expected to further consolidate Pipavav Port’s position as a leading automotive export-import hub on India’s west coast.
