An Indian LPG carrier, Green Sanvi, has successfully crossed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and is en route to India, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced on April 4, calling it a “victory of Indian diplomacy.”
The development comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which have raised concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors. Despite the volatile situation, the safe passage of the LPG carrier highlights the continued movement of India-linked vessels through the region.
Reacting to Sanghavi’s remarks, the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai emphasized the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between India and Iran. The mission referenced the arrival of the Parsis (Zoroastrians) in Gujarat over 1,300 years ago, underscoring a longstanding civilisational connection and reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial artery for global energy trade, particularly for India, which depends heavily on imports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and other fuels routed through West Asia. Ongoing geopolitical tensions have heightened risks to maritime traffic, with reports of disruptions and threats to the free flow of shipping.
