The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has entrusted the additional charge of Chairperson of Cochin Port Authority to M Angamuthu for a period of six months beginning June 20, 2026, according to an official order issued on Friday.

The order stated that, pending approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Angamuthu will hold the additional charge of the post until a regular appointment is made, further orders are issued, or the six-month period concludes, whichever occurs first.

An Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Angamuthu currently serves as Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority. He had earlier headed Visakhapatnam Port Authority as Chairperson.

The appointment comes after B Kasiviswanathan relinquished charge of Cochin Port Authority and returned to his parent cadre, the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), following his promotion.

Cochin Port Authority is one of India’s 12 major ports administered by the Union government. The interim arrangement is expected to ensure continuity in leadership and operations until a full-time chairperson is appointed.
