Mormugao Port Authority has proposed an investment of around ₹1,300 crore to redevelop Berth 9 as part of its plans to modernise port infrastructure and enhance cargo handling capacity.

The proposed redevelopment aims to upgrade the berth to handle larger vessels, improve operational efficiency, and support a wider range of cargo. Port officials said the project is expected to strengthen the port’s competitiveness and attract additional traffic.

According to the authority, the plan includes modern cargo-handling equipment, improved berth design, and supporting infrastructure to ensure faster turnaround times. The redevelopment is also aligned with efforts to improve safety standards and reduce congestion at the port.

The proposal is subject to approvals from the relevant authorities, including clearances related to financing and project execution. Once approved, the project is expected to be implemented in phases.

Industry stakeholders said the upgrade could play a key role in boosting Mormugao port’s capacity and supporting trade along India’s west coast.
