The Maharashtra government has recalibrated its economic strategy, placing port-led development at the centre of its growth vision as it looks to strengthen the state’s position as a major trade and logistics hub.

The revised approach focuses on expanding port capacity, improving last-mile connectivity, and developing integrated industrial and logistics clusters around major ports along the state’s coastline. Officials said the strategy aims to boost exports, attract private investment, and generate employment across manufacturing, logistics, and allied sectors.

As part of the plan, the state will prioritise multimodal connectivity projects linking ports with rail, road, and inland logistics infrastructure. Enhanced port-led industrialisation is also expected to support sectors such as automobiles, chemicals, textiles, and agri-exports.

The government said the shift aligns with national initiatives promoting port-led development and is designed to improve supply chain efficiency while reducing logistics costs. Industry stakeholders have welcomed the move, noting that stronger port infrastructure could enhance Maharashtra’s competitiveness in global trade.

Further details on project timelines, investments, and policy incentives are expected to be announced in the coming months.
