Construction has begun on a major air-cargo facility at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA), a key element of the airport’s master plan aimed at boosting Pakistan’s air-freight capacity and global trade connectivity.

According to officials, the under-construction cargo building will handle containerised, heavy and oversized freight, featuring automation, security systems and sustainable design in line with international benchmarks.

An NGIA official said the upcoming complex would be “safe, secure, sustainable, automated , connected and smart,” offering end-to-end visibility, autonomous ground systems and AI-based operational optimisation.

Pakistan’s air-cargo sector is undergoing rapid transformation as rising trade volumes, regulatory requirements and customer expectations accelerate the shift toward modern, technology-driven logistics infrastructure. Traditional facilities built around manual systems are now under pressure to modernise to meet efficiency and scalability demands.
