The Port of Long Beach in California continues to record strong container activity, reflecting sustained cargo movement through one of the United States’ key gateways for trans-Pacific trade.

The port plays a major role in handling imports from Asia, including consumer goods, electronics, furniture and other retail products. Its performance is closely linked to shipping schedules, inventory planning and demand across the US market.

In August 2026, the port handled 919,992 TEUs, a 2% increase compared with August 2025, making it the busiest August in its history and the fifth-busiest month overall. Imports rose 3.6% to 456,100 TEUs, while exports increased 4% to 99,754 TEUs.

From January through August, total throughput reached approximately 6.68 million TEUs, up 1.3% year on year. Port officials have attributed the sustained activity partly to shippers bringing cargo forward amid tariff uncertainty and restrictions affecting Panama Canal transits.

The continued flow of containers highlights the importance of the Southern California gateway to US supply chains. However, port management has also flagged concerns about future economic conditions and capacity constraints as shipping demand remains elevated.
