Global aviation services provider Swissport International has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art air cargo warehouse at Sofia Airport in Sofia, aiming to strengthen cargo handling capacity and improve logistics efficiency in the region.

The modern facility is designed to support the growing demand for air freight services in Bulgaria and across Southeast Europe. Equipped with advanced handling systems and dedicated storage areas, the warehouse will enable faster processing of shipments, including general cargo, temperature-sensitive goods, and high-value consignments.

Swissport said the new warehouse will enhance operational efficiency at Sofia Airport by streamlining cargo handling procedures and reducing turnaround times for freight shipments. The investment also reflects the company’s strategy to expand its cargo infrastructure across key European aviation hubs.

Industry observers note that demand for air cargo services in the region has been steadily increasing, driven by growth in e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value manufacturing sectors. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to help airlines and freight forwarders better manage rising shipment volumes.

With the launch of the new cargo warehouse, Swissport aims to strengthen its position in the European air cargo market while supporting the development of Sofia Airport as an emerging logistics gateway in Southeast Europe.
