Goa-based and family run Synergy Shipbuilders has won a $20 million contract to build two high speed crafts each with a capacity to carry 650 passengers from Tanzania’s state-owned Zanzibar Shipping Corporation.

Synergy Shipbuilders won the contract after pipping three Chinese shipyards in a tender, said Siddarth Malik at Synergy Shipbuilders.

The coastal cruisers are 53 metres high speed aluminium catamaran designed by a Dutch firm Coco Yachts for sailing at a speed of 40 knots in waves up to 4 metres high. The vessel will be classed with the Italian classification society RINA and IMO-HSC-2000 regulations and fly the Zanzibar flag.

Synergy Shipbuilders will build the high-speed crafts from a two-acre plot in Mumbai port allocated by the Mumbai Port Authority as its facility in Goa is booked for 12 months.

The high-speed crafts will be delivered to the ship owner in the third quarter of 2026.

The contract is eligible to receive shipbuilding financial assistance from the Union government.

Synergy Shipbuilders specialise in building high speed aluminium passenger ships, landing crafts, anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS), jack up barge, cargo vessels, tankers, tugs, Ro-Pax aluminium vessels, high speed patrol and pilot vessels.

The yard is currently building India’s first Unrestricted Pleasure Craft, first indigenously designed and built high speed crew boat and 390 passenger vessel.
