The Assam government has approved the Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy, 2025, marking a major push to position the state as a leading logistics hub for the Northeast. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan on Sunday evening.

The policy aims to strengthen Assam’s economic backbone by developing world-class logistics infrastructure, improving supply chain efficiency, and promoting private-sector participation. With Assam serving as a gateway to the Northeast and neighbouring countries, the government expects the new policy to significantly boost trade connectivity, investment, and employment generation.

Key components of the policy include:

    • Development of integrated logistics parks and modern warehousing clusters

    • Promotion of multimodal transport systems, including road, rail, air, and waterways

    • Streamlined clearances and single-window facilitation for investors

    • Incentives for private players to build cold chains, storage facilities, and distribution centres

The initiative forms part of Assam’s broader strategy to enhance its logistical competitiveness and support industries ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to exports.

The approval came alongside several other major Cabinet decisions — including land transfer for a new greenfield airport in Silchar, a collaborative aerospace and automotive training project with Dassault Systèmes at Assam Engineering College, compensation for land acquisition in Dima Hasao, and administrative clearance for Assam’s second Sainik School.

With the new logistics policy in place, the state government expects significant improvement in cargo movement, reduced transit times, and increased investment inflows, positioning Assam as a regional logistics powerhouse.
