India’s truck rental market remained stable in July as the logistics sector prepared for a seasonal increase in cargo movement ahead of the upcoming festive period, according to the latest Shriram Mobility Bulletin.
Truck utilisation levels and rental activity showed resilience during the month, supported by steady freight demand across key sectors. While market conditions remained largely balanced, logistics operators are anticipating stronger movement of goods as businesses begin preparing inventories for the festive season.
The bulletin highlighted that the commercial vehicle segment is closely watching demand trends, with expectations of increased transportation activity in the coming months. Festive demand typically drives higher movement of consumer goods, retail shipments, FMCG products, electronics and other high-volume commodities.
Despite stable rental rates, fleet operators continue to monitor operating costs, including fuel prices, maintenance expenses and driver availability. These factors remain important in determining profitability and freight pricing across the road transport sector.
The logistics industry has also been supported by improving supply-chain activity and increased demand for efficient road freight solutions. Truck operators are focusing on better fleet utilisation and route optimisation to manage costs and improve operational efficiency.
As India moves toward the festive peak season, demand for trucks is expected to strengthen, particularly on major freight corridors connecting manufacturing hubs, warehouses and consumption centres.
The sector is also witnessing greater adoption of technology-driven solutions, including digital freight platforms, fleet tracking and data-based route planning, helping transport companies improve asset utilisation and service reliability.
Industry participants expect the coming months to bring stronger cargo volumes as retailers and manufacturers increase stock levels ahead of festive sales. However, the pace of recovery will depend on consumer demand, industrial activity and overall economic conditions.
With truck rentals holding steady and festive demand expected to improve, the road logistics sector is positioned for gradual growth in the second half of the financial year.
