In a powerful example of gender inclusion in India’s maritime landscape, Tuticorin International Container Terminal (TICT), under V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, boasts a workforce where women make up nearly 50% of the team—a rare feat in the traditionally male-dominated port industry.
From gate operators and equipment controllers to HR managers and operations supervisors, women at TICT are excelling across roles. Whether in hi-visibility safety gear or traditional attire, these professionals are demonstrating that maritime excellence is driven by skill, resilience, and leadership—not gender.
Their presence is not only strengthening terminal operations but also symbolising India’s progress toward a more inclusive and productive maritime future.
This spirit of Nari Shakti (women’s power) will take centre stage at India Maritime Week 2025, to be held from 27–31 October at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai.
