United Africa Feeder Line (UAFL) and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have launched new feeder shipping services across Africa, strengthening regional maritime connectivity and improving cargo movement between key ports on the continent. The new services are aimed at meeting growing demand for reliable short-sea shipping and enhancing links with global trade routes.
The expanded feeder network will provide more frequent sailings and improved transit times, enabling shippers to move containers efficiently between regional ports and MSC’s mainline services. The initiative is expected to support a wide range of cargo, including consumer goods, agricultural products, industrial equipment and manufactured items.
The collaboration reflects increasing investment in Africa’s maritime logistics sector as shipping lines seek to capitalise on rising intra-African trade and the opportunities created by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Enhanced feeder connectivity is expected to improve access to international markets while reducing supply chain bottlenecks for exporters and importers.
By integrating regional feeder operations with MSC’s global network, the partners aim to offer customers greater schedule reliability, wider port coverage and seamless cargo transfers. The services are also expected to strengthen logistics efficiency for businesses operating across East, West and Southern Africa.
Industry experts said the new feeder services will contribute to the development of Africa’s port ecosystem by improving regional connectivity and supporting trade growth. The expanded network is expected to play a key role in facilitating container movement, boosting port activity and enhancing the competitiveness of African supply chains.
