The work to restore a section of the southern breakwater at Muthalapozhi, which was removed for the construction of the Adani Ports load-out facility, is in the final stages. This information was provided by the fisheries department principal secretary during a sitting convened by the state minority commission on Wednesday.
The commission chairman A A Rasheed was considering a case regarding the recurring accidents at Muthalapozhi, during the sitting. The fisheries department informed that based on the decision of a meeting held on Aug 5, the breakwater work is nearing completion. It is expected to be completed this month itself.
The remaining dredging work, which the Adani Ports could not complete, is to be carried out by the harbour engineering department. An estimate of Rs 2.05 crore was submitted to Adani Ports, but due to the lack of funds, the work has not been tendered. Based on the district collector’s report, the commission directed Adani Ports authorities to pay the estimated amount within a month.
In another case taken up by the commission, it considered a petition from a retired employee from TRIDA, requesting that previous govt service be counted as qualifying service for pension benefits. Based on the TRIDA secretary’s report, which stated that a govt order is required for such consideration, the commission concluded the petition proceedings.
