Hapag-Lloyd, in partnership with Shell, has entered into a multi-year agreement for the supply of liquefied biomethane, marking a major milestone in the adoption of renewable marine fuels.
The agreement, which takes effect immediately, builds on the strategic collaboration established between Hapag-Lloyd and Shell in 2023 to accelerate the decarbonization of alternative marine fuels.
Liquefied biomethane will play a significant role in Hapag-Lloyd’s journey towards net-zero fleet operations by 2045. By incorporating this renewable fuel into its operations, the company is advancing efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions while supporting customers in reducing the carbon footprint of their supply chains.
Since 2024, Shell has been supplying liquefied biomethane across 22 global LNG bunkering locations. Certified under ISCC EU, the fuel ensures sustainable feedstock sourcing, full supply chain traceability, and verified reductions in life-cycle emissions.
